Local church Training
The Methodist Action Program (MAP), provides the local church with technical assistance in strategic planning, assessing their neighborhoods, starting community development corporations, community organizing and preparing 501(C)2 applications.
Centro los Abuelos
"The Grandparents" Center, is a Hispanic Senior Center located at 623 North Harrison Street in Wilmington, where individuals can share their experiences from various Hispanic cultural backgrounds. This program offers a variety of services and activities, recreation, trips, transportation and translation.
Who Benefits?
Centro Los Abuelos and its benefits are available at no cost to Delaware residents age 60 and older and is targeted primarily to those of Hispanic origin.

Los Abuelos is of particular benefit to those:
  • Who are unable to obtain services because of a language barrier.
  • Whose cultural difference have impeded the utilization of needed community services.
  • Who can not access their family support network.

What is Los Abuelos?
Los Abuelos is operated by the Methodist Action Program and is designed to provide Hispanic elderly in the Wilmington/ New Castle area with information on needed services.

Los Abuelos plays an important role in identifying and assuring that social, medical, and nutritional supports are made available to older Hispanic people where they live.

What can Los Abuelos do for you?
We provide one-on-one assistance in obtaining
Needed services, such as:
  • Transportation
  • Interpreter services
  • Translators
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Filling out forms
  • Medicare and Medicaid
  • Social Security
  • Legal assistance
  • Housing and energy assistance
  • Food and nutritional services
  • Cultural and recreational activities
Youth Moving Forward
This initiative spearheaded by the Methodist Action Program, is a faith-cased program that targets first-time, non-violent, youth offenders. The program is administered at no-cost to the participant and provides a support system for reintegrating the youth back into society. The program will provide youth with volunteer mentors who will assist with the reintegration process. Mentors will help the youth explore interests and positive options for developing trusting relationships, provided guidance, proactive study skills, interview skills and utilize community resources to assist the youth, Christian counseling and bible study will also be offered.
There are training opportunities for volunteers, as well as activities to assist with the bonding process.More....
Homeless Ministries
Emmanuel Dining Room East
Operated by The Ministry of Caring, the Emmanuel Dining room served 64,413 meals to hungry people last year-people who might not eat were it not for this program.
Friendship House
Friendship House is Christian corporation committed to making a difference in the lives of homeless and impoverished people in Wilmington. Last year, 2,300 men and 900 women were assisted with rebuilding their lives. Friendship House also provides clothing, breakfast, worship, grant programs and community education.
F.A.I.T.H. Center
Consultations, referrals to available community resources and as appropriate, financial assistance are offered to help recipients from suffering through family crises. In 2003, the F.A.I.T.H. Center had 2,859 contacts and provided grants to 454 households.

S.H.A.R.E. Food Program
 
A new initiative for the Methodist Action Program, SHARE is a program that allows anyone who is interested to receive $35-40 worth of food for only $16 by volunteering only 2 hours of their time per month. "

Who can participate?
S.H.A.R.E. is open to everyone. If you eat, you’re in. There are no restrictions.
